It could possibly be a compiler mismatch perhaps - are you sure the svg library is also compiled with gcc 3.2[.2]?

:-) Debian/Sid has had it for quite some time - it was using the CVS version. Anyhow, now I'm at loss about where to look next... It doesn't seem that Image.SVG is the problem...
