I so no reason to start deleting files just because some debian guy can't figure out how to install pike properly.
I mean, one doesn't have to be extremely anal. Look at the debian emacs package. Emacs by tradition have all sorts of random files in share/emacs/<version>/etc, the GNU manifesto, half a dozen icon bitmaps, a huge terminal decription file, etc. Some of the files are needed for emacs to work properly, some are jokes. These files aren't moved around to their "proper" places by the debian package. Since most are documentation, there's a link to that directory from /usr/share/doc/emacs/etc, and that's about all as far as I can see.

My suggestion is most likely the easierst way to fix it so that it is flexible enough (by removing the files that people complain about entirely)
