To (hopefully) end this story. I replaced the gnu tar shipped with this version of MacOS with a more recent version. Now the xenofarm target seems to work, and flaerp.naetet.net appears on the Pikefarm result page. (7.4 now, 7.6 and 7.7 on the way).
