Of course. I didn't say that it's not the case. However things that would be harmful to Pike's performance would be if datatypes were to be implemented in Pike, such as mappings (as they are in Java). Also those parts have always been written in Pike. I am wondering if Nilsson had any specific examples.

Some things are way easier to write in pike than in C, and not exactly time-critical. Typical examples includes argument parsing and the resolver, and everything else that resides in the master, such as error handling.
Moving that over to C would be rather pointless.
