Ok, here it goes (the compiler is gcc 3.2):
Sorry for the followup to my own post, but configuring pike with --without-machine-code worked fine with a strange exception - the first time precompile.sh was ran it failed to find tpike, the 2nd run found tpike and everything seems to have worked fine.
