I don't think it's appropriate that the dependencies files are removed by make clean since they are part of a source dist. distclean could perhaps do that.

I ask because "make" doesn't work for me since my dependencies are broken, and "make depend" tries to build a pike and fails because my dependencies are broken. It would have worked if "make clean" cleared the dependencies files, but it doesn't.
