(I send in my comments too quick...) On the *third* hand, I think stop using negative indexing to mean the end of arrays would be even better, and if arr[<x] simply means reverse(arr)[x], it's absolutely even better and seems very consistant with everything.

oracle module (again!)

after the fixing of the memory leak and another bug we still encounter problems with the oracle module. after successful tests at our testserver we moved on to our production server and did some performance tests there (using 7.4.169 and roxen 4-cvs). this is a linux-smp server (the other one is a single processor machine running also linux). as soon i start tests with concurrent requests the process immediately hangs and the server restarts. peter holzer (our sys-admin) thinks that this might be a thread problem. BTW: mysql connections are fine. /michael

Except of course when the C-module allows for concurrent operations e.g. when making SQL queries, processing images, hashing data and other operations that doesn't affect Pike structures until completed. On a webserver the OS and the DBM typically also needs CPU time, and they are not bound by the intepretator lock.

Much threaded pike-code runs noticeably faster on a SMP machine. The reason is somewhat obvious: The lock is released for most operations that take significant time (such as image operations, database queries, I/O etc) Also, having an extra CPU for any databases and other external programs, and the system itself for that matter, really helps a lot.

Pike Camp and Conference Wrap-up

I've posted a wrap up article covering hilights of last week's Pike camp and conference. Redirecting stdio

Howdi gurus :) I'm trying to redirect my stdin/stdout/stderr when using Process.create_process. This far, I only get data through first when the file gets closed. I would much prefer to have them in a non-blocking fashion - any way to get this? (tried PROP_NONBLOCKING and set_nonblocking( read_cb, write_cb ) without success... )...

cmod vars to pike

Hi, How do I go about to map variables from a cmod to pike? I've found map_variable( "name", "type", flags, offset, pike_type ) but it comes along with a few questions. Can I only map struct object|string|array|... stuff from my Foo_program struct, or c stuff as well? like a foo * (or foo[]) treated as an array (guess not, so I'm about to make a struct array of my foo[]).. I'm only needing it for read only, but what happens if written to?

Another one.. simply a missing ')' when generating GET_[FOOBAR]_STORAGE about line 1639 (v7.6). Guess no-one use to use this macro, eh ;P
