Were you not able to get any C code to play through SDL either? Does your SDL library have a mixer compiled in it (I think it is optional)?

Not a good idea; the design philosophy of Pike is that Pike-level code should never be able to cause memory corruption at C-level. HI to all! mysql 4.x support works only with a mysql CFLAGS=-DUSE_OLD_FUNCTIONS is this correct ? are there plans to make a full 4.x support ? bye, thomas

CritBit-Tree implementation for pike

We have been working on a CritBit tree implementation for pike. We would like to get it upstream, however we have made a few changes elsewhere that may need discussion: precompile.pike templating: we added a simple template support to precompile.pike. It basically replaces a set of identifiers in the template file before precompilation. The syntax is admittedly not very beautiful. Autodoc to support global paths in AUTODOC_SRC_IN: we could not figure out how to make the autodoc generator to extract docs from several .cmod files without the AUTODOC_SRC_IN feature applied on the generated .c-files with absolute paths. You can check it out using git from http://fortranland.com/git/pike. The branch is called critbit. We have not done any testing on non x86 machines. It would be nice if someone could run the testsuite on some big endian machine. Also, we only compiled on linux machines. There might be problems on other environments because of the gcc intrinsics we are using for prefix searches. Currently there are trees supporting float, integers and pike strings and two derived types for ipv4 ip addresses and date objects. The lookup, insert and delete operations are comparable in speed to pike mappings (1.X slower in our tests). In worst case scenario critbit trees can be slow in insert and lookup (e.g. keys like "a"*i). However, critbit trees should be more memory efficient in many cases because of the mapping overhead. Also, they support several operations that mappings don't offer, namely, iteration in lexicographical order, range lookup and finding biggest/smallest index, etc. We have written quite extensive tests and a complete documentation, which you can find at http://fortranland.com/refdoc/modref/ex/predef_3A_3A/ADT/CritBit.html Any hints, suggestions, bugreports and comments are welcome. arne and tobias

SDL.get_video_info() docs

Hi Slow week again :( but I got this one function done. I haven't changed the return type but I'm sure it's not right. It's given as void|object but I can't see how it would ever not return anything. If the video device is uninitialized, Pike returns 0 (the original C function returns NULL). Wouldn't that be a special type of (null) object rather than void? Thanks & regards, larcky.

'make doc' doesn't work

Hello I hope this isn't just my machine that's playing up because I'm using my netbook at the moment rather than my main PC, but... With the latest Pike checked out from git, 'make doc' fails with this error message: PikeParser: expected identifier, got "(" (/home/matthew/Downloads/Pike-devel/pike/src/builtin.c:5611) Hope someone can make sense of that! Hi Not done much this week but here's some documentation for SDL.blit_surface(). I've left out some of the subtleties in the original C docs and just filled in the basics. I hope I'm right in changing the method signature: I had a look at the PIKEFUN in SDL.cmod and tried out a small example and it seems you can set those last two args (srcrect & dstrect) to '0' or leave them out to get default behaviour. Also, with SDL.Rect, is this the only way you can initialize an SDL.Rect object to, say, values 50, 50, 100, 100? SDL.Rect r = SDL.Rect(); r->x = 50; r->y = 50; r->w = 100; r->h = 100; Before I tried this: SDL.Rect r = SDL.Rect( 50, 50, 100, 100 ); but it didn't compile, presumably because there's no create() method matching that pattern? Would that be a useful thing to add, or is there a smarter way of setting the initial values? Thanks and regards, larcky :)

Hi I'm still working through the SDL module - please find attached my latest diff file for documentation. As well as adding things I've also fixed a few minor typos and added some examples in places. I noticed that SDL.get_key_state() refers to SDL.pump_events() but that method isn't in the SDL.cmod file. I took the liberty of adding it as it's a simple C function to call (no args and no return value). Hope that's OK - I've tested it and it works fine on my system. Thanks & best wishes, larcky
