Komeda

Does anyone remember what the title of that major label CD single from a few years back by Komeda was? Yeah, the one I didn't buy. Well, I did buy the new Komeda album while I was in Sweden last month. And now I want to know. Do I have the single track? Right, so Kokomemedada. Nobody's mentioned it yet? Honestly, it didn't seem all that impressive on the first listen. Maybe a bit muddled. But in retrospect, it must have just been a bit more complicated, because after the third or fourth listen it all makes sense. Seeming every bit as good as most any other Komeda record ever did when it was fresh off the griddle. Though a hair more moody this time. And every bit the record I need to put on at least once a day right now. That and Miss Universum's "Selfelected." More about that one later, perhaps. Not feeling much luck embarking on a description of Komeda (but feeling very much like this list would be far more valuable to me if more people would endeavor to describe music), I'll mention this instead: Stefan Zachisson and I were sitting around listening to Hanna's show on P3. Something got said about whether a person ought to be able to recognize when a band is from Sweden or not. Styles, accents, whatever. And then I ask who the heck's on the radio, "sounds like the guy from House of Love...but wait a sec, that ba-ba-ba vocal in the background...that's like a post-Japan ba-ba-ba. There's *no way* that The House of Love ever would have had a vocal like that back in their day." Of course, both Stefan's jaw and mine dropped when Hanna announced that it was Komeda. Now, where the heck was he (Marcus?) hiding that voice all along. No stuttering, mind you. Oh, and Erik, my money says "Nonsense" has nothing to do with NONS...or did you find out otherwise? The other hot item I brought back from my trip is Miss Universum's album debut (the was a single I missed). Formerly of Doktor Kosmos' posse. The doctor made the music, in fact. But it's all Catti, spouting along, and fortunately for the likes of us, in English. Tomi from Cessna thought it was a bit B52s-ish, and that's fair (and just fine in Tomi's book). Though it's much artier. Mildly abrasive, artier side of girl-power lyrics. With good "buy nothing" politics, and none of the Chicks On Speed hipsterness, if that's something that puts you off. MOTOSIERRA BRAZILIAN TOUR 2003

Punk rock, álcool, sexo, distúrbios, ruído, hardcore, depravação, diversão, drogas, Turbonegro, Dwarves, Mötorhead, destruição, insultos, sangue, suor, saliva, poder...rock n´roll! Este é o caminho escolhido pelos uruguaios do MOTOSIERRA para sobreviver à insípida realidade de seu país e a falta de criatividade musical do mesmo. A banda tem apenas 04 anos, mas seus integrantes não "caíram de pára-quedas" no mundo do rock.. Com idades entre 26 e 34 anos, esses rapazes (?) fizeram parte de bandas legendárias do Uruguai como Cadáveres Ilustres, Tabaré Riverock Banda, Cross e Chicos Eléctricos. E como já dito anteriormente, a cena musical independente uruguaia é praticamente inexistente, sendo assim restou à banda buscar alento no mercado exterior. Seu primeiro contato foi com o país vizinho de mesmo idioma, a Argentina, através do selo No Fun Records. Com bandas como Restos Fosiles, Killer Dolls e She Devils em seu cast, o selo foi responsável pela excelente divulgação dos uruguaios nas cercanias de Buenos Aires, ocasionando assim em dezenas de shows na capital Argentina, inclusive com os internacionalmente famosos 2 Minutos. E foi por um acaso do destino que a Motosierra conseguiu um de seus maiores êxitos. Visitando páginas na internet, "descobriram" que o selo alemão Bitzcore Records estava aceitando material (covers) de qualquer banda do globo terrestre para um futuro álbum tributo à banda Turbonegro, onde bandas do porte de Dwarves, Zeke, Supersuckers, Teraphy?, Nashville Pussy entre outras já haviam confirmado participação. Os uruguaios não perderam tempo e trataram de entrar em estúdio para gravar "Hobbit Motherfucker", que inacreditavelmente entrou para o tributo, intitulado "Alpha Motherfuckers". Foi nessa mesma época que o proprietário do selo argentino, ao ouvir a versão da música do Turbonegro, propôs à banda que gravassem um disco. Então entre março e maio de 2001 foi criado "XXX", que trás toda a violência da banda em treze músicas que avançam sem piedade ao longo de vinte e dois gloriosos minutos num processo de violação rock n'roll e abusos sonoros indescritíveis, onde algumas canções chegam a durar apenas 40 segundos. "XXX" atingiu a impressionante marca de 40 cópias vendidas no Uruguai. Isso mesmo, QUARENTA cópias! Mas o negócio mesmo era a Argentina. O show de lançamento foi lá, os discos eram para o público daquele país. Tanto que o restante das cópias ficaram por lá, a cargo do selo No Fun Records. De volta à Montevideo, começaram a gravar seu primeiro vídeo clipe para a música "F.U.C.K.", baseando-se na banda Black Sabbath e no filme The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (O Massacre da Motosierra), nada mais sugestivo. Seguindo o curso dos acontecimentos, o selo sueco H.D.P. convida à banda a participar de uma coletânea chamada "A Collection of Great Dance Tunes" com quatro músicas inéditas. Está compilação foi lançada em CD e em vinil e as músicas do Motosierra são: "Hell drunkards & Pretty tattoed hookers", "Feed my head" e uma versão para a música "Lost poison" da banda argentina Cadáveres. Quando parecia que tudo poderia ter acontecido para a banda, eis que o selo alemão Incognito Records propõe que façam parte de seu cast através de um 7", além de reeditarem seu primeiro álbum "XXX" em vinil com nova arte e mais duas músicas bônus. E foi no Brasil que o selo Läjä Records presenteou os aficionados tupiniquins por rock n'roll garageiro com um CD split dos uruguaios ao lado da banda curitibana Evil Idols. Os chicanos do MOTOSIERRA chegam assustando neste lançamento, "rock pauleira" como diria sua avó caduca. Guitarras pesadas aliadas a vocais distorcidos e muita velocidade! Veja no que eles transformaram a clássica "Drunk Fools" do Evil Idols, mas não cochile senão a musica acaba e você nem percebeu. "Space Cowboy", "Leatherface" e "Suck my Dick", se você já conhece o "XXX", CD debut da banda, essas musicas são tudo que você está esperando. Como se não bastasse, "Nervous Breakdown" (ah, precisa falar que é do Black Flag?) e o encerramento, porque não dizendo assim, "com chave de merda", do saudoso GG ALLIN com "Bite it you Scum". What was once described as alternative rock later climbed the charts and became popular music, aka pop. But you're right, Union Carbide Productions never went to "popular music" during their time. Today some even want to label their music "stoner rock". Myself, I'd label them pop/rock. Cheers // Erik

Marit Bergman - ex-Candysuck, her debut album, recently released on her own label, is filled with rough pop love. Mando Diao - got their break during the KALAS tour last year, the debut album is a wild 60s garage rock ride. Queens Of The Stone Age - yeah yeah not scandinavian indie is it, but Kyuss did *everything* right, got to keep following the former members :P. Fireside - miss this concert at your own peril... I saw Fireside live earlier this spring here in Linkoping and they blew me away. Their new album is *so* highly recommended it's scary. If you think you know what they sound like, think again. Audioslave - well, I used to be a grunge junkie hehe, Chris Cornell + RATM = a pretty nice combination. The Raveonettes - totally brilliant rock/pop from denmark. I don't know about the Jesus & Mary Chain comparisons though, but they got them sweet disted and dirty guitars, which is enough for me. The Hives - Anyone not heard of The Hives yet? Didn't think so :P Hopefully playing some new material, since we've heard all the Veni Vidi Vicious songs for a couple of years now. Not that the old songs are bad, they're not, but I wouldn't mind hearing something new too. MYRMECOLEO RECORDS (Japan): MOTOSIERRA RULES!!! CROSSBEAT MAGAZINE (JAPAN). "Motosierra is the punk rock 'n' roll band from Uruguay of South America. This 2nd full-length album contains fast tunes that reminds me of Zeke and Puffball, and some mid-tempo tunes, but all songs are kickass. Not only the guitars but also the drums are so noisy, and the vocals are brutal and hot. I describe they mix Motorhead and hardcore with high energy. Last but not least, the last song (?) called "Kamikaze Blues" is dangerous and cool!" DAREDEVIL MAGAZINE & RCDS. (GERMANY). Yeah - the 4 killers from Uruguay are back with their legendary, 2nd full-length album. After some compiltation contributions, they hammered 14 short, fast and loud slaughters into that release. This is raw, this is heavy! I like WE SELL, YOU BUY and SPACECOWBOY very much. But all tracks are on the same high level and don`t leave prisoners. They kill! First rule - no rules...that is the trademark from Motosierra. Listen to (I WANNA) FUCK MYSELF and you know what I mean. If you like it hard, heavy, fast, raw and short - this is your first choice!!!
