How to starting a process in a remote machine through fsh

Hi, Can some one help please help me how to start a process in a remote machine through fsh. My problem is I have start a process in the remote machine and then I have terminate myself. The remote machine shall continue with the process started by me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, R

using fsh across a gateway

Hi, I am using a setup where I need to do something like: To run the remote command 'uname -a' on host2 from host1: [root@host1]$ ssh host2@host-gw "ssh root@host2 "uname -a"" & where host-gw is the gateway box. They are all freebsd boxes. Can I do the same using fsh without having to install fsh on the gateway? Please CC me on the reply. Thanks, Anand

Hi Ceder et al. I've just discovered your wonderful drop in replacement for ssh which looks like it could vastly improve the speed of our application. I've installed and tested it and it works beautifully, except for one thing... Our application uses ssh options. We use -i to specify the location of the private key and -o sometimes to specify options. We paticularly need -i because system users have different keys for different tasks. fsh itself doesnt accept the standard ssh options. I even tried this syntax: fsh -r 'ssh -i /location/of/my/key' ... but that doesn't work either. Is there a way to do this? Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Many thanks. Tim.

When I try a "mass action" like "synchronize repository" I get "Unknown response received from cvs server" errors and after this even the 1 file actions don't work anymore until I kill the in.fshd process on the server. Hi, I have created a spec file for fsh which is aimed at Redhat installs. I have made rpms created with it available on ferris' website http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=16036 because the new ssh VFS module runs much nicer using fsh and I wanted to make it nice and easy to install fsh on many boxen. Note that the below spec makes noarch rpms and there are a few other nicenesses to it, I'll upload new fsh rpms to the ferris site soon. you might like to include the spec (or a modified version) into the main fsh distro :) -- ----------------------------------------------------- http://witme.sourceforge.net/libferris.web/

problems with lots of fsh connections

we've been using fsh for some internal stuff recently, along with openssh (currently we're using version 3.0.2). we've been having some problems with ssh connections failing with the message: Received disconnect from x.x.x.x: 2: fork failed: Resource temporarily unavailable the problem seems related to either a lot of openssh procs, a lot of fsh procs, or a combination. currently we have a cron job set to execute every 15 minutes which does: for A in `ps aux |grep fsh |egrep -v "reset_fsh|fsh -T" |awk '{print $2}'`; do kill $A done this fixes the problem, but obviously isn't a good long-term solution. we use ssh and scp for a great deal of stuff, so the machines that are having problems (which act as controller machines for our other machines) have a LOT of ssh procs running usually. most of the machines are debian linux (potato) with a custom built fsh 1.1 package (based on the woody package). there are a few freebsd machines as well. the change has become problematic since we switched to using ssh v2 everywhere (i assume the extra processor overhead needed to deal with the larger dsa keys doesn't help). so i realize the problem is most likely partially with ssh, but it only seems to become problematic when we're using fsh to tunnel connections. any tips on setting fsh, ssh, or both to allow more concurrent procs? i tried changing the limits.h include file to allow more procs and recompiling ssh. this didn't seem to help. i'm a bit more hesitent to edit the fsh stuff since i don't know python at all. anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, especially from people who use fsh with a great number of concurrent connections. -- Experience -- a great teacher, but the tutition fees...

1.0.post.5: the timeout feature is implemented

The current development version of fsh is 1.0.post.5. It contains a timeout mechanism, so that fshd exits when it has been unused ten hours (configurable). Unless any bugs are found, I plan to call this release 1.1 in approximately one week. /ceder

Current fsh plans

The current version of fsh is 1.0.post.3. The current plan is to implement some kind of timeout mechanism, and release 1.0.post.4. If no bugs are found in that snapshot, a real 1.1 release should be made soon afterwards. I hope to be able to release 1.1 this year. /ceder
