You are Oberstleutnant Hubert Bader, commanding officer
of 3. Grenadier Abteilung, 8. Regiment, 3. Panzergrenadier
Division.

The 3. Panzergrenadier Division have been tranferred from Italy
to the Western Front in August 1944. On its arrival in France it
had been at over 80% strength, being particulary well equipped
with assault guns and heavy weapons.

During the withdrawal through France the Division continuously
sustained light casualties but also received considerable
armoured reinforcements. It's currently assigned to XLVII Panzer
Korps.

The division has high combat value. The two grenadier regiments
are roughly (with the exception of one Abteilung) at almost full
strength, but they are lacking the Flak company. Regiment 29 even
have 6 S.P. (sIG 33/1 "Grille") 15cm Guns.

Panzerjäger Abteilung 3 is in excellent condition, with 31
JagdPanzer IV and 12 PaK 40.

Panzer Aufklärings Abteilung 103 is exceptionally strong and
well equipped, and at the time the strongest recon battalion
in the whole German Army.

The 3. Panzergrenadier Divisions Panzer outfit, Panzer Abteilung
103, is equipped with 37 StuG III, 2 PzKpw III and 1 PzKpw IV.

The panzergrendiers in the grenadier regiments are transported in
a mixture of light and medium cars and trucks of which 75% do not
have cross-country capability.

The Division is currently deployed along the Moselle river in France,
defending the fortress city of Metz. It's under the protecting
umbrella of the forts' guns (ranging up to 210mm).

Going from your previous assignment as a "mobile" (more or less)
reserve, your battalion have been assigned a defensive position
along the main line of defense and the Moselle. Your battalion
will be responsible for the area from Voisage Farm to Arry, replacing
the weak 2. Abteilung in the line. 3. Abteilung is currently
located in Lorry.

Along the river, to the north, is 282. Infantry Battalion of 462.
Infantry Division (XIII SS Infantie Korps). The 282d is a second-rate
outfit. To the south is 1. Abteilung, 8. Grenadier regiment.

Behind the Divisions lines is 17SS Panzergrenadier Division being
refitted with elements of 26SS and 27 SS Panzer "Division" (they
are divisions only on paper).

On the other side of the river are elements of the U.S. Third army. The
americans have managed to establish a bridgehead in the area of Dornot,
and rumours has it that the Division will assist in containing,
and destroying, the bridgehead.
